Our coffees
What is a Karbur totem coffee?
Each of our 10 coffees is paired with a totem animal and a personality: playful Pön-Pön, wise Örakle, spirited Rebël… Five are signature blends and five are single origins. The goal: help you find the coffee that matches you, not just a "strong" or "mild" coffee.
What is the difference between a blend and a single origin?
A single origin comes from one country or region (e.g. Ethiopia Yirgacheffe) and highlights a specific terroir. A blend combines beans from two or three origins to balance body, acidity and aroma.
How do I choose my coffee?
Take our Find Your Totem quiz: 8 questions and one minute to find the coffee that fits your taste. You can also compare flavour profiles on our Coffees page.
Where is Karbur Café located?
Karbur Café is an artisan roaster based in Sainte-Adèle, in Quebec's Laurentians. Our specialty coffees are roasted in small batches, then bagged and shipped across Canada.
What is specialty coffee?
Coffee selected for quality from farm to cup: beans scored 80+ points by certified tasters, traceable origins and careful roasting that respects the bean's natural flavours.
Grind and brewing
Whole bean or ground: which should I choose?
Whole beans keep their aroma longer — ideal if you own a grinder. Ground coffee is ready to brew; we grind it for drip machines, French press and automatic machines.
Which grind for my coffee maker?
Espresso: very fine. Moka pot: fine. Pour-over / V60: medium-fine. Drip machine: medium. French press: coarse. Bitter cup? Grind coarser. Sour or weak? Grind finer.
How much coffee per cup?
As a starting point: 10 g of coffee per 175 ml of water (about 2 tbsp) for drip, or 60 g per litre. For a double espresso: 14 to 18 g. For French press: 1 g of coffee per 15 g of water.
How many cups in a bag?
A 300 g bag makes about 30 cups of drip coffee or around 20 double espressos. A 1 kg bag makes about 100 cups of drip coffee or around 70 espressos.
Freshness and storage
How should I store coffee beans?
In their resealable bag, tightly closed, at room temperature, away from light, heat and moisture. Avoid the fridge: moisture and odours damage coffee.
Can I freeze coffee?
Yes, for long-term storage only: freeze beans in an airtight container in small portions and don't refreeze them. For a bag you'll finish within a few weeks, the pantry is better.
How long does coffee stay fresh?
Coffee is at its best 1 to 6 weeks after roasting and keeps good qualities for up to 3 months. Once opened, enjoy it within about a month.
Orders and shipping
How long does shipping take?
Orders are prepared within 1 to 3 business days, then delivered in 2 to 7 business days in Canada. Ground coffees ordered before Monday noon are prepared and shipped the same week.
How much is shipping?
Rates are calculated at checkout based on weight and destination (Canada Post or Purolator). Shipping is free on orders of $70 or more.
Do you ship across Canada?
Yes, we ship to every Canadian province and territory.
How do I track my order?
As soon as it ships, you'll receive an email with your tracking number.
Subscriptions
How does the coffee subscription work?
On any coffee page, choose Subscribe and your frequency — every 2, 4 or 6 weeks — and save 10% on every delivery. Our Never Run Out of Coffee plan delivers 1 kg a month with $8 shipping.
Can I skip a delivery or cancel my subscription?
Yes, anytime from Manage my subscription (link at the bottom of the site) or your customer account: skip, pause, update your address or card, or cancel.
Can I switch coffees in my subscription?
Yes: email us at info@karburcafe.ca and we'll update it. You can also choose the Roaster's Selection to get a different coffee every month.
Returns and quality
Do you accept returns?
Because coffee is a food product, we can't take back shipped coffee. If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, email us within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo and we'll replace or refund it.
